Newcastle have tied highly-rated scrum-half Micky Young to a new one-year deal at Kingston Park.
The 19-year-old made his Premiership debut for the Falcons against London Irish having spent a large part of the season on loan at Tynedale.
And acting director of rugby Steve Bates believes Young can go on to become the next Gary Armstrong - the former Lions and Scotland No.9 who earned cult status during his seven-year stint at Newcastle.
Bates said: "As well as being an extremely skilful player in all the areas you would expect from a scrum-half, he is a naturally fierce competitor with a real tough streak to his game.
"In Micky I see a lot of the same combative qualities as a player like Gary Armstrong, which is high praise indeed, and I look forward to seeing him continue his development within the Falcons system."
