London Irish have announced that one of their Aviva Premiership matches in the 2015-16 season could take place overseas.
A report in the Daily Telegraph on Tuesday suggested that the destination could be New York, on St Patrick’s Day – March 17 – next year.
A club statement confirmed the Exiles’ intention to become the first club to play a Premiership match outside England, but stopped short of revealing the location.
It read: "The club is exploring the possibility of playing a Premiership game at an alternative venue. As soon as details are confirmed, we will communicate with our supporters."
The newspaper said that the match would be the first in a series of three that Irish would play in the United States over a three-year period.
Irish finished the 2014-15 season in 10th place in the 12-team Premiership.
