Exeter Chiefs No 8 Thomas Waldrom could get a chance to take out his frustrations on England after being added to the Barbarians squad.

Waldrom was one of the major absentees from Stuart Lancaster's World Cup training squad, which was named earlier this week.

The former Leicester Tigers back-row was leading scorer in the Aviva Premiership this season, touching down 16 times in his first season with the Sandy Park side, who just missed out on the play-offs.

The Barbarians, who are being coached by former Australia chief Robbie Deans, take on Ireland in Limerick on Thursday and then face an England XV at Twickenham three days later.

Waldrom said: “It’ll be an enjoyable week. Playing for the Barbarians is a great experience and an honour, they enjoy their rugby and express themselves and I’ll really enjoy being part of that.

“It’s all about having the chance to express yourself and enjoying the game. I’m sure Robbie Deans will have some great moves for us to come up with in the games.

“I’ll probably go back and have a look at some of those old All Blacks flick moves from the early 1990s and see if we can find something special.”
