Marcos Ayerza injury blow for Leicester Tigers

Leicester Tigers will be without loose-head prop Marcos Ayerza for four to six weeks after the Argentina international suffered a hamstring injury.

The 32-year-old left the pitch in pain after diving trying to prevent a try during last weekend’s 22-6 defeat against Saracens at Allianz Park.

Ayerza arrived in England from Buenos Aires in summer 2006 and has since made 144 Premiership appearances.

Tigers’ director of rugby Richard Cockerill told BBC Radio he is hopeful the prop will return in time to play Wasps on May 9.

"He has a grade-two hamstring strain that will probably be four to six weeks. But hopefully it will be nearer the four and he'll be fit to face Wasps," he said.

"He's a quick healer and it's not quite as bad as we first thought."

With the Champions Cup semi-finals taking centre stage this weekend, the Tigers next Premiership game is against London Welsh at Welford Road on April 25.
