Autumn internationals: Wales wing George North will have to sit out Saturday's clash with South Africa

Wales will be without Northampton wing George North for their final 2014 autumn Test against South Africa at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

North was taken off during the 34-16 loss to New Zealand last Saturday with a cut above his eye and subsequently had to be assessed for concussion.

He will be replaced in the number 11 shirt by Scarlets man Liam Williams who has impressed this autumn and will face the Springboks again five months after he was involved in a controversial incident during the second Test defeat in Nelspruit.

Wales led throughout the match but were defeated 31-30 when South Africa were awarded a decisive penalty try
just two minutes from time after Williams was ruled to have tackled an opponent by leading with his shoulder.

Wales have also made a couple of changes to their front row for Saturday, prop Gethin Jenkins coming in for Paul James to win his 110th cap while Scott Baldwin replaces Richard Hibbard at hooker.

We have come in this morning, the squad are feeling fresh, and the focus is looking ahead to Saturday and the Test against the Springboks.

James and Hibbard have returned to Bath and Gloucester respectively because this match falls outside the International Rugby Board autumn Test window.

Aaron Jarvis and Rhodri Jones will provide prop cover on the bench, where James King is the back-row option instead of Justin Tipuric and fly-half Rhys Priestland is recalled as Dan Biggar's back-up.

Wales will be bidding to avoid a 27th defeat in 28 matches against southern hemisphere powerhouses New Zealand, Australia and South Africa since Warren Gatland took over as coach.

And Gatland said on Thursday: "We have had a couple of changes forced upon us, with the injury to George (North) and with Paul (James) and Richard (Hibbard) returning to their clubs, but we have named what we think is a very strong side.

"Last weekend was a very intense, physical encounter. The guys were disappointed but we have come in this morning, the squad are feeling fresh, and the focus is looking ahead to Saturday and the Test against the Springboks.

"As coaches, we will be asking for the same effort, intensity and desire as last week and we want a repeat of that at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday."
