South Africa flanker Francois Louw has been ruled out of the rest of the Rugby Championship with a pinched nerve in his neck.

Louw picked up the injury in the Springboks’ 14-10 defeat to New Zealand on Saturday and is likely to be out for around eight weeks after a specialist confirmed the extent of the problem.

The 29-year-old could be fit for their Northern Hemisphere tour in November but for now he joins Ruan Pienaar on the sidelines, who is likely to miss the next four to six weeks due to a medial cruciate ligament injury.

“This is another set-back as we prepare to host Australia and New Zealand in two very important matches as Francois has been superb for us in the last couple of seasons,” Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer told the South African Rugby Union’s official website.

Meyer is yet to confirm who he will call up to his squad for the upcoming game with Australia in Cape Town on Saturday September 27.
