New Zealand crushed first-time finalists Canada 54-7 to win in Glasgow and move a step closer to clinching a 12th IRB Sevens World Series title.

Scott Curry and Ben Lam scored two tries apiece as the All Blacks Sevens, who had beaten Australia and Fiji in the previous rounds, were left singing in the Scottish rain.

The result extends their lead at the top of the standings over second-placed South Africa to 19 points ahead of the final round of the season, which takes place at Twickenham next weekend.

"It was pretty special and the team has a lot of character," New Zealand captain DJ Forbes said after the match. "The rain falls into our hands a little bit. We still have a job to do in London but you'd think we can do it."

Canada had upset hosts Scotland 10-7 in a hard-fought semi-final that saw captain Phil Mack contribute all their points, kicking a penalty drop goal along with the conversion to his own try.

"It is huge for the team," Mack said after his team moved up to sixth in the table, jumping above Samoa. "It's always been a special team, but this group has the belief and that it is something good."

Scotland ended up finishing in fourth place after going down 17-10 to the Fijians in a play-off.

England claimed the Plate with a 26-5 result against Kenya, while France took the Bowl courtesy of a 20-14 triumph against Australia. The Shield final was won by Wales, courtesy of a 29-12 victory over Japan.
