Sale captain Dan Braid will miss the end of the Aviva Premiership season after having knee surgery.
The six-cap All Blacks flanker has undergone a minor operation and will miss the Sharks' final two games of the campaign, against Leicester Tigers and London Irish.
The 33-year-old former Auckland Blues loose-forward has been out since Sale's home victory over Northampton Saints on March 22.
Sale rugby director Steve Diamond praised his skipper's influence this term, with the Sharks having secured a place in next term's European Rugby Champions Cup.
"His leadership is second to none, he's been fantastic for the club," he told the BBC. "He puts his body on the line time and time again."
