Folau Niua: Centre now with Glasgow Warriors
Glasgow Warriors have signed United States international centre Folau Niua for the remainder of the season.
The 29-year-old, whose deal is subject to him passing a medical and being granted a visa, has been a regular in the USA sevens team for the past two years.
He has scored 239 points in 21 sevens tournaments and is joining Glasgow direct from the Wellington 7s in New Zealand where he helped the USA win the Shield.
Niua has also played three full internationals for the Eagles and has been signed as a replacement for Gabriel Ascarate, who left the Warriors last week after picking up a season-ending neck injury.
Niua told the club's official website: "I'm really excited about this new challenge and I'm looking forward to playing in the RaboDirect PRO12 with Glasgow.
"I've played against Leone Nakarawa and Niko Matawalu on the sevens circuit and they're very good players and I enjoyed playing at Scotstoun with the USA sevens team at the Glasgow 7s last year.
"It'll be the first time I've played for a club in Europe, but if things go well I'd love to stay in Glasgow beyond this season. My goal is to go over there and do my best and see what happens."
Meanwhile, Glasgow's Canadian winger DTH van der Merwe will miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.
Van der Merwe has undergone surgery and will be out of action for up to six months.
