Bath captain Stuart Hooper has signed a one-year extension to his contract with the club.

The 32-year-old lock has been with Bath since 2008 when he moved south from Leeds Carnegie.

Bath are third in the Aviva Premiership - 11 points behind Northampton - following Saturday's win over Newcastle Falcons and news of Hooper's extension comes as a welcome boost.

Hooper said: "This was not a tough call for me. I love leading this squad and am proud to do so, so signing on again was a great moment.

"Bath is a very exciting place to be, and playing my part in helping this great club grow is a genuine honour."

Bath head coach Mike Ford said: "Hoops is a fantastic leader and has real presence, so to extend his contract is a big plus for us.

"He is massively respected by everyone at Bath Rugby and is playing arguably the best rugby of his career. Needless to say, we are extremely pleased he will be here next season."
