Leinster and Ireland have suffered a blow after it was confirmed that Sean O'Brien will miss four months due to shoulder surgery.

The PRO12 side's head coach Joe Schmidt said the 26-year-old back rower, who dislocated his shoulder in a recent win over Ulster, is done for the season.

"Sean had an operation last Friday and he's likely to be out for four months, maybe beyond that," he said on Friday's Late Late Show in Ireland.

O'Brien could even have played his last game for Leinster as his future remains uncertain, with Toulon one club rumoured to be chasing his signature.
