Head coach Richard Cockerill is expecting Montpellier to provide a stern test of Leicester's Heineken Cup credentials this weekend.

Having already lost to Ulster in this year's competition, the Tigers know that they cannot afford any slip-ups against their French visitors on Sunday.

Cockerill admits that French sides can be notoriously lacklustre when facing away assignments in European competition, but does not expect that to be the case at Welford Road.

"It's a difficult one with the French because they can travel to England and not be particularly interested," the Tigers supremo told Sky Sports. "Then you can get a good win and they might be out of the tournament.

"But then you can go to their place the week after and they will be up for the battle because they're playing at home. They're always a difficult one to read.

"But they are a good squad. Fabien Galthie is a good coach, he knows the game very well and he's got a good squad.

"They may well come to Welford Road with a fully-loaded team and be up for the battle.

"We will be well prepped. We need to win - we have to win. We've now got to play well enough to do that."

Fly-half Toby Flood echoed the sentiments of his coach, warning that Montpellier - who have also already lost to Ulster in Pool 5 - will be scrapping for their lives this weekend.

"Obviously they realise that if they lose this weekend that they might struggle to get out of the pool, having lost already at home to Ulster," Flood added.

"For us, it's about putting out a statement of our intent. We know where we are in terms of our injury list, but to manage that as best we can and come out at the far end of that, and hopefully set up for next week's fixture in a position where have won this game we can go there with a bit of confidence, a bit of a buzz.

"If we do then do a job over there it hopefully means that a big, big power in this pool is not around any more."
