Niko Matawalu will be free to continue playing for Glasgow after he was cleared of deliberately biting Munster's Donncha O'Callaghan during Friday's RaboDirect Pro12 match.

The 24-year-old scrum-half attended a three-and-a-half-hour disciplinary tribunal in Cardiff on Wednesday, which concluded that the contact made by Fijian's teeth on O'Callaghan's arm was accidental.

A Glasgow club statement read: "The committee found, on the balance of probabilities, that while Niko's teeth had come into contact with Donncha O'Callaghan's arm, causing injury, this contact was accidental and therefore not an act of foul play. Accordingly, the citing was dismissed.

"The committee said that they had been impressed with the evidence given by all concerned, including Messrs O'Callaghan and Matawalu, and that they had no doubt that the citing commissioner was right to bring the complaint."

Munster scrum-half Conor Murray was also cleared of elbowing Matawalu during Friday's match, which Munster won 13-6, with JJ Hanrahan scoring all their points.
