Wasps and Italy back Andrea Masi has been ruled out for up to five months after suffering a serious knee injury against Sale last month.

Masi, 32, damaged his posterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament in the match.

He will miss Italy's autumn internationals and is a doubt for the Six Nations, a huge blow for the Azzurri - Masi has 80 caps and is the most experienced back in their squad.

Wasps signed USA centre Andrew Suniula this week and Tonga wing William Helu has also finally arrived after agreeing to join the club in the summer.

They will boost Wasps' their back-line options in the wake of injuries to Tom Varndell, Hugo Southwell and now full-back or centre Masi.
