Worcester have appointed new signing Jonathan Thomas as their new captain.

The Wales international flanker only joined the club in the summer from the Ospreys but he has made big impression on coach Dean Ryan.

Thomas, who has 67 caps for Wales, captained the Warriors in a pre-season friendly against his former club last weekend and he has now been handed the job on a permanent basis.

Ryan said: "Jonathan has been an asset to Warriors since he joined us in the summer, both in his performances on the pitch and also in the qualities he demonstrates off the pitch.

"He's a strong leader who understands the game and his past experience with Wales and Ospreys will be important in building the future here at Sixways."
