Former rugby league star Kyle Eastmond has been named in England's 33-man elite player squad for the first half of the season.

The Bath centre made his England debut as a replacement in the first Test against Argentina in June, and marked his first start with a try during the second Test victory over the Pumas.

Eastmond replaces club teammate Jonathan Joseph, who drops down to the Saxons, while another Bath player - lock Dave Attwood - has been selected in the elite squad ahead of Calum Clark.

Saracens No 8 Billy Vunipola joins brother Mako in the senior squad in place of Leicester's Thomas Waldrom, with Gloucester flanker Matt Kvesic is also included after impressing in Argentina.

Northampton hooker Dylan Hartley has been retained despite his red card in last season's Aviva Premiership final, with Chris Ashton also named despite his recent patchy form.

Elsewhere, Wasps wing Christian Wade, who was called up to the British and Irish Lions squad, has been preferred to Saracens' David Strettle.

Chris Robshaw and Tom Wood, who both captained England last season, are in the senior squad, although coach Stuart Lancaster has not confirmed who will captain the side in the autumn internationals.
