Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill has failed to overturn his nine-game suspension but succeeded in bringing the dates forward.

Cockerill was initially banned until November 3 after he was found guilty of using words that were "obscene, inappropriate and unprofessional" during the Aviva Premiership final on May 25.

The former England international unsuccessfully appealed the length of his ban but will now be cleared to return on October 18.

His ban will include pre-season friendlies with Jersey and Ulster and conclude after the Heineken Cup clash with Treviso.
