British and Irish Lions: Tommy Bowe wants to win for Brian O'Driscoll

Tommy Bowe claims the British and Irish Lions squad are motivated to win Saturday's deciding Test against Australia for Brian O'Driscoll.

The Lions have made six changes to their line-up for the third Test showdown at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney - however it was the omission of O'Driscoll that has caused the biggest controversy.

The four-time tourist has been dropped after head coach Warren Gatland opted to pair Jamie Roberts and Jonathan Davies together, with Manu Tuilagi providing cover on the bench.

However O'Driscoll, who has never won a series with the Lions after defeats to Australia (2001), New Zealand (2005) and South Africa (2009), has remained an integral part of the squad in the build-up.

Motivation

And Bowe insists the players now want to repay the legendary centre with a win on Saturday.

"Brian came and trained with the team yesterday," said Bowe.

"He spoke up and told us exactly what it meant to him again.

"I think everybody knows the disappointment that he has from not being involved but for a guy like that, such a presence he has around the squad, for him to really be rallying around the team and to really want us to push on and win the series, it is a huge motivation for us to do a job for him."

Bowe was part of the Lions squad that lost the series 2-1 to the Springboks four years ago - and the Ulsterman would love to erase those memories with victory in Sydney.

Intense

And he believes the preparations ahead of The Decider have been spot on.

"We know exactly what we want to do, we want to get to play some rugby," he said. "We were a little bit passive in defence last week. We let Australia take the game to us so hopefully we can reverse that.

"We have had a great session today. It was very upbeat, with a good skill level and was exactly what we needed before a tough match.

"We had a couple of days off to get away from it in Noosa but the last three days have been intense.

"It doesn't feel like the last game of the season, it is a do-or-die match and we are fully up for it."
