Tom Wood will skipper England for their upcoming game against the Barbarians and three-match tour of Uruguay and Argentina.

The Northampton Saints forward has been handed the captaincy after head coach Stuart Lancaster opted to rest Chris Robshaw.

Lancaster has selected 11 uncapped players, including Wasps duo Christian Wade and Billy Vunipola and rugby league convert Kyle Eastmond.

Gloucester's Freddie Burns is the only fly-half selected, while Danny Care, Toby Flood, Brad Barritt and Chris Ashton have all been rested.

England face the Barbarians at Twickenham on 26 May before travelling to South America, where they will face a CONSUR XV, representing the South American nations, in Montevideo on 2 June.

They then move to Argentina for a two-Test series against the Pumas, in Salta on 8 June and Buenos Aires on 15 June.

Lancaster said: "We feel we've got the balance right and have given places to a number of players who have shone in the Aviva Premiership this season, one or two who have been on the fringes for a while, and several players who have been involved over the last year or so. This is everyone's chance to step up.

"Tom Wood will captain the side and I am sure he will do a fantastic job, as he has the respect of all the players and management and we are looking forward to other leaders developing in the absence of some senior players.

"A few are being rested after a hard campaign but they will, of course, be considered by the British and Irish Lions should they be required."
