Scotland lock Richie Gray believes the British and Irish Lions have got a fantastic opportunity to beat Australia.

The Lions will take on the Wallabies in three Tests as part of their 10-match tour Down Under in the summer.

And Gray, who has been named in Warren Gatland's 37-strong squad, is confident the Lions can secure a first series win since 1997.

The Sale forward said: "I think the talent across the board is exceptional and I think we have got a fantastic opportunity to win a Test series."

Chuffed

Gray is one of three Scots in the squad, with the 23-year-old joining Sean Maitland and Stuart Hogg on the plane.

And after seeing the past season irrupted by injuries, he is delighted to be involved.

"I am absolutely over the moon," he told Sky Sports. "I'm chuffed to bits and just trying to settle down a bit now.

"I found out at 11, I think like most it was a pretty nerve-wrecking 10/15 minutes. I am just over the moon... myself, family and friends are delighted.

"I have had a few injuries over the course of the season but over the course of the last six to eight I was able to get myself in pretty good condition so I am happy where I am at physically. The call, yes it was a bit of a surprise so it makes for a great feeling."
