Manchester United have pulled Old Trafford from the list of venues for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, according to widespread reports.

The 76,000-seat venue was earmarked for up to three games in the autumn of 2015, but United fear the effects of a heavy schedule on the pitch.

United are likely to be involved in three competitions at the time of the tournament, while Super League's Grand Final is an annual September fixture at the stadium.

And the Press Association reports England 2015 are now in talks with Manchester City about using the Etihad Stadium across town instead.

Organisers hope to finalise a tournament schedule sometime this month, and London's Olympic Stadium is also in the frame to host games.
