Chiefs winger Lelia Masaga has confirmed he is set to move to Japan at the end of the current Super Rugby season.

The 26-year-old, who has appeared 80 times for the defending champions, has agreed a two-year deal with the Honda club.

Masaga, who won just the one cap for the All Blacks, will now miss the ITM Cup campaign with the Bay of Plenty.

"This was a really tough decision to make," said Masaga.

"The Chiefs have been an important part of my life for eight years, but this was just simply an opportunity that was too good to turn down."

Chiefs boss Dave Rennie claims Masaga will leave with the club's best wishes.

He said: "Lelia is a highly valued part of the Chiefs family, but at his stage of his career this is a fantastic chance for Lelia and his family and we wish them well."
