Gloucester scrum-half Dave Lewis has agreed to join Premiership rivals Exeter.

The 23-year-old will end a six-year association with Gloucester at the end of the season to sign a two-year contract with the Chiefs.

Lewis has struggled to hold down a place in the first team at Kingsholm this term and is moving on in search of more regular rugby.

He told the Gloucester website: "I think I'll get more playing opportunities at Exeter Chiefs next season. And that's what I need at this stage in my career, to be playing regularly.

"There are no hard feelings, I'll always be grateful to Gloucester for giving me the opportunity. I'll miss a lot about the club, especially playing at Kingsholm in front of a superb set of supporters."

Lewis' family lives in north Devon, and he has received positive reports about Exeter's ambitions from inside and outside the club.

He told the Chiefs website: "I knew a bit about the place already, but having talked to (director of rugby) Rob Baxter I liked what he had to say and the direction the club is taking.

"My parents have also kept me informed about things like the stadium redevelopment, so even from the outside you can see the club is making positive steps on and off the field."
