Northampton have confirmed the signing of Australia prop Salesi Ma'afu for the 2013/2014 season.
The 29-year-old has shone for the Brumbies and Western Force in Super Rugby in the past but his career has been overshadowed by two serious arm injuries.
However, any concerns over his fitness have not stopped Saints moving to secure his signature, as Ma'afu began 2013 back in full training and part of the Wallabies squad.
"We have been impressed by what we have seen from Salesi," Northampton director of rugby Jim Mallinder said.
"He has built up a good reputation as one of the top props in Australia and has been a big part of the Wallabies' recent improvements in the set piece.
"Salesi will add a great deal to our group of props and the squad in general going into next season, and we're looking forward to welcoming him to Franklin's Gardens later in the year."
Ma'afu faces a battle to establish himself at Franklin's Gardens, where incumbent props Soane Tonga'uiha and Brian Mujati will also compete with another front row arrival - England international Alex Corbisiero from London Irish.
