Harlequins flanker named Aviva Premiership Player of the Season

Harlequins and England captain Chris Robshaw has been named as the Player of the Season at the Aviva Premiership Rugby Awards in London. Under the leadership of Robshaw, Quins finished top of the Aviva Premiership table and have secured a home semi-final against Northampton at The Stoop. The 25-year-old flanker captained England in only his second Test appearance and led the new-look national team, with Stuart Lancaster at the helm, to four wins in the RBS Six Nations. Despite his international commitments, Robshaw has played in 16 Premiership games and saw off competition from team-mate Mike Brown, Leicester flanker Julian Salvi, Exeter loose forward James Scaysbrook, Saracens centre Brad Barritt and Gloucester prop Nick Wood to win the award. "This award is richly deserved," Harlequins director of rugby Conor O'Shea said. "What I like about him is that no matter which accolades come his way or what he achieves we all know what comes first with Chris is the team.

Team player

"Chris is the sort of guy who'll never get above himself. For him it is all about the team. He wants nothing more than for the team to be successful." Saracens back Owen Farrell won the Land Rover Discovery of the season award, given to the standout player of the season who is aged 21 or under. Exeter's Rob Baxter was named QBR director of rugby of the season after he led the Chiefs to Heineken Cup qualification just two seasons on from their promotion to the top flight. The MBNA Try of the Season was awarded to Gloucester full-back Jonny May for his brilliant solo effort against Harlequins in February. London Irish's Tom Homer won the Gilbert Golden Boot for his haul of 253 points, while Sale's Rob Miller took the Guinness Top Try Scorer of the Season award after crossing the line 10 times. Harlequins and Leicester had the most players selected in the ESPN Dream Team, with five each. Dream Team in full: Mike Brown (Harlequins); Horacio Agulla (Leicester), George Lowe (Harlequins), George Pisi (Northampton), Alesana Tuilagi (Leicester); Toby Flood (Leicester), Haydn Thomas (Exeter); Joe Marler (Harlequins), Schalk Brits (Saracens), Dan Cole (Leicester), Samu Manoa (Northampton), Geoff Parling (Leicester), Chris Robshaw (Harlequins, capt), James Scaysbrook (Exeter) and Nick Easter (Harlequins).
