Lions back Butch James has been given a four-week ban after pleading guilty to committing an act of foul play during his side's 34-20 defeat against the Brumbies on April 27.

The former Springbok was found guilty of charging into a ruck and making contact with Brumbies flanker Scott Fardy.

James has been suspended from all forms of the game until May 27.

He will miss all of the Lions' tour to Australia and New Zealand, which features games against the Chiefs, Blues, Reds and Force.
