Barrell: Moving to Bedford Blues
Bedford Blues have bolstered their squad with the signing of Don Barrell and Stefan Liebenberg.
Barrell, a 25-year-old No.8, will make the switch from Aviva Premiership champions Saracens, while Liebenberg will make the step up from National Two South outfit Old Albanians.
"We are delighted to have such an experienced and passionate player signing for us and I know Don is really excited about joining the club and pursuing a career in education."
Mike Rayer Quotes of the week
Barrell made his debut from Saracens at 18 and gone on to be capped at England Sevens level.
And director of rugby Mike Rayer believes Barrell will add some much needed steel to the Blues pack.
Rayer said: "We are delighted to have such an experienced and passionate player signing for us and I know Don is really excited about joining the club and pursuing a career in education.
"We've seen what he can do and he comes with a fine reference from all the coaches down at Saracens. I've no doubt Don will add great value not just in the back row but also to the group we are assembling here at Goldington Road."
Liebenberg, who has played for England Counties, will battle it out for the No.9 jersey following the departure of Will Chudley to Newcastle.
Rayer said: "Stefan is a player that we have been aware of for some time and now is a perfect opportunity for him to step up to the Championship and show everyone what he is capable of.
"He has plenty of experience and has more than served his apprenticeship at both Old Albanians and Cambridge under the tutelage of James Shanahan and we are delighted that he has signed."
The Blues have also been boosted by news ex-England international Nick Walshe, Chris Locke, Phil Boulton, Sam Walsh, Brendan Burke and Sacha Harding have all committed to the club for next season.
