Dickinson: Will make the switch from Gloucester in the summer

Prop Alasdair Dickinson has become the latest Scotland international to join Sale after agreeing to move from Gloucester.

However the arrival of Dickinson has been off-set by the news that centre Jonny Kennedy has been forced to retire for medical reasons.

"He has a very high work-rate and is a good scrummager and will fit in perfectly with what we are trying to achieve at the club."
Steve Diamond Quotes of the week

The 27-year-old Dickinson will team up with compatriots Richie Vernon and Fraser McKenzie as the latest piece in the Sharks pack.

The loosehead prop, who has been capped 19 times, began his professional career at Edinburgh before going on to make 60 appearances for Gloucester.

And Sale executive director Steve Diamond believes Dickinson is the ideal addition to his pack.

Disappointed

He said: "Alasdair is another great signing for us. He has a very high work-rate and is a good scrummager and will fit in perfectly with what we are trying to achieve at the club."

While delighted at bolstering his pack, Diamond has been saddened by news Kennedy has been forced to hang up his boots.

The 21-year-old, who made his debut for the Sharks in 2008, has been advised to retire after receiving a series of concussions during his short career

Diamond said: "We are really disappointed for Jonny as he had fought his way back from a knee injury and was hitting form.

"His games in January saw him score three tries in three games, which deservedly won him the club's player of the month award.

"It's sad when a young player like Jonny has to leave the sport, but his health is more important and he has made the correct decision."
