Newport-Gwent Dragons No.8 Joe Bearman has been linked to a move to the Ospreys after it was confirmed he would leave Rodney Parade at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old joined the Dragons in 2005 from Cornish Pirates, and has gone on to become a popular figure at the club.

However Bearman, who has made more than 70 appearances for the side, has now decided the time is right to move on - with the Ospreys believed to be leading the race to sign him.

And although disappointed to hear the news, Dragons interim coach Darren Edwards feels the club have the talent coming through to cope.

He told the Western Mail: "Losing a player of Joe's calibre is a blow because he is a great rugby player.

"But I don't think in terms of a return from a player - he has played five or six games in two years - it will be.

"We have seen Toby Faletau, Dan Lydiate and Lewis Evans develop and we have a lot of young, good back rowers here."
