Second row Richie Gray could miss Scotland's crucial fixture against Wales in their RBS Six Nations clash at Murrayfield on Saturday.
"As a precaution we have drafted Edinburgh lock Scott MacLeod to our squad and he trained with us today, having also worked with us earlier in the week."
Andy Robinson Quotes of the week
Gray was a notable absentee in his team's "captain's run" on Friday, which could force Andy Robinson to make an unwanted switch to what would have been an unchanged starting XV.
The 21-year-old Glasgow Warriors forward was a stand-out performer in his team's 34-21 loss to France last weekend and was set to win his eighth cap against Wales.
Gray missed the team photo and final training session with a stomach bug and his absence could trigger a slight change in Scotland's back-row.
Nathan Hines is likely to switch from blindside flanker to his accustomed position in the second-row alongside captain Alastair Kellock, with Ritchie Vernon promoted from the bench to number eight and Kelly Brown wearing the number six jersey.
Edinburgh lock Scott Macleod could find himself on the bench after Robinson had the forward put on standby for the Wales game.
"As a precaution we have drafted Edinburgh lock Scott MacLeod to our squad and he trained with us today, having also worked with us earlier in the week," said Robinson.
"Scott gave a quality performance in Scotland A's victory over Ireland A at Netherdale last month and we would have no qualms if he is required tomorrow."
