London Irish could through Wales centre a lifeline

London Irish have become the first club to publicly express an interest in signing Wales centre Gavin Henson. Wasps and Harlequins had been strongly linked to moves for Henson, who wants to leave the Ospreys for personal reasons. However both clubs, along with Saracens, Bath and Gloucester have all distanced themselves from moves for the 28-year-old who hasn't played for 18 months. The Exiles, though, would be willing to throw Henson a Premiership lifeline if he could secure his release from the Ospreys. London Irish director of rugby Toby Booth told The Telegraph: "No English club can afford to pay a transfer fee but if Gavin is able to sort out his affairs then I would be interested in having talks with him. "I would never say never about any player and there are only so many good players around. There is no point cutting off your nose to spite your face. It is about getting the right player for the right deal."
