Newport Gwent Dragons have been buoyed by news Wales international Dan Lydiate has agreed a new deal to stay at Rodney Parade.

The 22-year-old flanker would have been out of contract at the end of the season, however he has agreed an extension to remain with the Magners League outfit until 2013.

Lydiate has come through the academy set-up at the Dragons and gone on to be capped twice by Wales.

He was strong contender to take part in the tour to New Zealand and the one-off international against South Africa only for injury to rule him out.
