Stormers full-back Joe Pietersen has agreed to Bayonne as part of a massive recruitment drive from the Basque club.
Bayonne only avoided following Albi into ProD2 after Montauban were 'administratively relegated' due to their finances.
And determined to avoid a similar scenario next season, Bayonne have bolstered their squad with six signings, headlined by the arrival of Pietersen.
The 25-year-old goalkicker, who can also play on the wing, had been earmarked as a future South Africa international and has already represented the Springboks on the IRB Sevens circuit.
Bayonne have also bolstered their front row with the signing of prop Clément Baïocco, a member of France's Six Nations squad, from Racing Metro.
Former Reds and Calvisano lock Cameron Treloar and Montauban second row lock Abdellatif Boutaty have also added to pack.
Former Western Force utility Garth Ziegler and Montauban scrum-half Julien Audy will give options to the back division.
