Powell: Lengthy spell out
Cardiff Blues have confirmed that prop Gary Powell will require surgery to repair a torn Achilles.
Powell is facing upto eight months on the sidelines after suffering the injury against Leinster.
And with Powell joining Sam Hobbs and John Yapp on the sidelines and Gethin Jenkins away with the Wales team, the Blues have just two fit props for the LV= Cup semi-final against Gloucester.
Taufau Filise and Scott Andrews are the only senior props available, and with Gareth Williams also injured, so T Rhys Thomas is currently the sole option for the No.2 jersey.
Injuries and international call-ups mean that the Blues will go into the match with Deiniol Jones, Bradley Davies, Richie Rees, Tom James, Leigh Halfpenny, Jamie Roberts and Tom Shanklin also missing.
