New Brumbies recruit Matt Giteau has backed Matt Toomua to shine in his absence.
Australia Under-20s playmaker Toomua will wear the No.10 jersey against Western Force on Friday after off-season signing Giteau failed to overcome a quadriceps injury.
And despite being expected to make an immediate return at fly-half for the round two game against the Bulls, Giteau believes Toomua, along with centre Christian Lealiifano can continue their pre-season form in Perth.
"Matty and Christian were impressive at 10 and 12 last week (against the Waratahs)," said Giteau.
"They've trained well again in those positions this week and they're forming a strong combination there."
Having joined the Brumbies from Western Force, Giteau admitted he was frustrated to have been ruled out the clash against his former team-mates.
"I'm obviously very disappointed as it was a game I was really looking forward to," Giteau said.
"You want to be available for the first game of the season and when you've got history (with the Force) like I do, it was a match I was really keen to be a part of.
"But I said from the outset that I wouldn't play if my injury was going to jeopardise the performance of the team. As it happens, that decision has now been made and I'll now start my preparation for the Bulls."
