Cardiff Blues have handed contract extensions to giant Tongan prop Taufa'ao Filise and centre Dafydd Hewitt.

Duo follow in footsteps of Blair in committing themselves to Cardiff

Cardiff Blues have handed contract extensions to prop Taufa'ao Filise and centre Dafydd Hewitt. Tongan Filise, who has won 29 caps for his country, has agreed to prolong his stay in Wales having arrived from Bath back in 2006. Centre Hewitt is a former Wales Under 21 international who has played 25 times for the Blues, scoring two tries. The decision of the duo to sign new deals follows on from Ben Blair extending his stint with Cardiff until the end of the 2012 campaign.

Great news

"It's great news that both Fau and Dafydd have signed new contracts with the region, which follows on from the news that Ben Blair has also signed a contract extension," director of rugby David Young said. "Fau has been in fantastic form for us this season, with his ball carrying and powerful runs always posing a threat to the opposition. "We've been really pleased with the progress he's made since joining us." On Hewitt, Young added: "Dafydd Hewitt is a product of the Blues Academy in Trefforest and is one of the most promising centres in Wales. "He is gradually gaining more and more experience and is certainly a player to look out for in the future."
