Rees: Returning to action

Welsh hooker Matthew Rees is expected to return to action for the Scarlets on Saturday, when they take on Wasps.

"If we give that same level of commitment and endeavour, then we give ourselves a chance"
Nigel Davies Quotes of the week

The Lions hooker has been out of action since the Autumn Tests, when Wales were defeated heavily by Australia in November.

With Rees being back in the squad, and the Scarlets also welcoming back New Zealander Regan King - head coach Nigel Davies is hoping they make a good return to action.

He said: "It's great for us to see Regan back and fit again. But we have to recognise and respect just how long he has been out, so we are not expecting a great deal from him in these early games.

Physical

Davies has also admitted that Wasps have lost players to internationals, but knows the game will still be very tough.

He adds: "Wasps have lost key players on international duty, but having said that their team will still be very strong.

"We expect them to be very competitive - they are a very aggressive group and they look to dominate teams.

"The physicality of it will be evident, and that is the first thing we have to go out and do - to match them physically.

"We knew that would be the case against (Heineken Cup opponents) Brive last weekend, and our pack of forwards fronted up very well.

"If we give that same level of commitment and endeavour, then we give ourselves a chance."

Rees has been included in the Wales squad for the forthcoming RBS Six Nations and is expected to start in the opener against England at Twickenham.
