Star full-black joins fellow All Blacks committed to next World Cup

Full-back Mils Muliaina has followed a number of All Blacks in signing new contracts with New Zealand rugby to see him through to the next World Cup in 2011. A host of key All Blacks have signed new contracts and committed themselves to the next World Cup recently, with Ali Williams and Tony Woodcock signing up at the weekend. Muliaina is the most-capped full-back in New Zealand history having played 68 Tests since his debut against England in 2003. The 28-year-old has now penned a fresh deal with the New Zealand Rugby Union and the Waikato provincial union, and he says he is now fully focused on his All Black future. "I am happy to be staying in New Zealand. I love the black jersey, I love the country," Muliaina said in a statement.

Process

"While it has been a lengthy process getting to this decision, I have a drive to be part of the dream to win a Rugby World Cup and that desire burns strongly. "It's a big weight off my shoulders now that the decision has been made. I can now just concentrate on continuing to make the most of my New Zealand rugby career." New Zealand Rugby Union chief executive Steve Tew welcomed the news that Muliaina had joined the likes of skipper Richie McCaw and fly-half star Dan Carter in signing until 2011. "Mils is a great player and person who commands immense respect both on and off the field," Tew said. "We are delighted that he has chosen to commit himself further to New Zealand rugby despite very attractive offers to play overseas. "This signing also means we now have the core of a very experienced All Blacks side contracted for the coaches to work with."
