Butch James has signed a new three-year deal with current Guinness Premiership leaders Bath.

The South African has played an integral role in the club's strong start to the campaign and Bath fans will undoubtedly be pleased to see that the 29-year-old fly-half has committed his future to the club until the end of 2011-12 season.

"I have made some really good friends in Bath and am really happy playing rugby here and hope to keep playing well," said James, who has racked up 113 points for the club in just 22 appearances.

But despite his fine club form, the former Natal Sharks player remains sceptical about his international prospects.

The 35-cap international was a World Cup winner with South Africa in 2007, but with his career now edging towards its twilight, James admits that his chances of gaining a regular place in the Springboks side are slim.

"It's always been great to be able to play for your country," added James.

"But I think my days as an international player might be numbered, although I would still really like to make the Lions tour (next year).

"If I make the selection for that, we will see from there."
