The Chiefs could be without key man Brendon Leonard for the crunch Super 14 encounter with league leaders Crusaders at Waikato Stadium on Friday.
The All Black scrum-half was unable to train at the start of this week after suffering with a bruised knee, but Chiefs' coach Ian Foster is hoping he will be fit for Friday's vital game.
The Chiefs are expected to field an unchanged line-up from the side which beat the Brumbies two weeks ago as they prepare to face an unbeaten Crusaders who have amassed a seven points lead at the summit after just eight games.
Muliaina and Anesi fit
Stand-in skipper Mils Muliaina is recovering from a hamstring strain but should be ready to lead out his troops.
Versatile back Sosene Anesi is now off the injured list after an ankle problem kept him out for several games and is back training.
Club captain Jono Gibbes has missed the Chiefs' last five matches with a badly torn hamstring, and despite a return to training this week it seems unlikely Foster will bring him back for anything more than a place on the bench.
