Young London Irish star Richard Thorpe has signed a new three-year contract at the Madejski Stadium.

The back-row prospect has committed his future to the Heineken Cup semi-finalists until the end of the 2010-11 season.

Thorpe, a product of Irish's academy system, only became a full-time professional last year, but he has shone at domestic and European level this term.

Irish forwards coach Toby Booth said: "Richard is an excellent example of the fact that persistence and perspiration will bring rewards.

"He has grabbed his opportunities with both hands this season, and his performances show how influential he has become."
