Meehan insist England duo will stay at The Rec

Bath have insisted that Matt Stevens and Olly Barkley are not set to follow Steve Borthwick out of The Rec in the summer. Bath were left stunned by news that England second row Borthwick had agreed to join Saracens at the end of the season. The Guinness Premiership title-chasers refuse to break the bank to keep or sign players and that has led to a number of clubs to attempt to tempt their stars away - with Northampton believed to be keen on recruiting Stevens. However Bath coach Steve Meehan insists the club are moving in the right direction - with England duo Barkley and Stevens playing a key role in their future plans. Meehan told The Telegraph: "We will be reassuring supporters in the coming weeks that the club will continue to move in the right direction.

Recruitment

"We will be announcing the retention of four key members of the squad next week and clearly Matt Stevens and Olly Barkley are high on our agenda and they are both in talks with us, which is good news. "Recruitment has also gone into overdrive after the interest Steve's departure caused." Bath have already seen Matt Banahan and Mike Baxter commit to the club - with Joe Maddock putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal on Tuesday.
