Zac Guilford has been recalled to the New Zealand squad for the forthcoming Test series against Ireland, after injuries left the All Blacks short of wingers.
Guilford was left out of the initial 35-man squad named by coach Steve Hansen after several disciplinary problems had caused disruption in the camp.
But he has now been offered a reprieve, after Cory Jane joined Richard Kahui on the injury list.
The 23-year-old believes it's a reward for keeping his head down. He said: "I knew if I worked hard, kept out of trouble and did the right things on the field then eventually it would come, and I'm very grateful to have the opportunity again."
Guilford and the un-capped Julian Savea are now the only specialist wingers left to face the touring Ireland side next month. Something coach Steve Hansen hopes to rectify.
"We might look at someone who can double up as a utility, and just give us a bit more strength in that area," he said.
