Aviva Premiership: Leicester's David Mele suspended for one week

Leicester scrum-half David Mele will miss Saturday's Aviva Premiership clash with London Irish after he was suspended for one week.

Mele pleaded guilty to a charge of 'stamping or trampling' during the Tigers' match against Bath last Saturday.

Leicester suffered a humiliating 45-0 defeat at the Recreation Ground as they failed to score for the first time in Premiership history.

Their misery was compounded by the dismissal of Frenchman Mele, who had replaced Ben Youngs from the bench on the hour, by referee Wayne Barnes for his stamping infringement in the 77th minute.

“It was the softest red card I have ever seen,” said Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill after the match.

An RFU statement read: "David Mele was given a one-week ban beginning the 23rd September 2014. He is free to play again on 30th September."
