Akapusi Qera: No plans to leave Gloucester this summer

Gloucester flanker Akapusi Qera has denied reports that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Qera, one of the Kingsholm club's key players, has been linked with a move to France this summer but says he has no intention of departing before the end of his contract in 2014.

The destructive back-row turned down a move to France when he signed his existing Gloucester deal in 2010, and fears he was about to leave increased when the Cherry and Whites signed openside flanker Matt Kvesic.

But Qera says he is happy and settled in Gloucester and talk of a move away from the club is wide of the mark.

"I'm really surprised about that, because I don't know anything about that at all," Qera said. "I'm sticking with my word from the start, that I will stay with Gloucester, and then see how it goes.

Settled

"I'm settled and enjoying myself, and I just need to be focusing on my rugby rather than focusing on rumours flying around. Right now I'm putting my foot down on Gloucester and that's it, I've got nothing else apart from that."

Qera's next outing comes on Friday night against Sale, but despite it giving them a chance to take on former coach Bryan Redpath, the Gloucester squad is focused solely on victory to keep their play-off hopes alive.

"All that is being discussed around the club this week is the aim for a win, nothing more, nothing less," he added.

"The atmosphere has changed as a whole this season, things are going pretty well - but we definitely need the result this week. It's a milestone for us compared to last season, when we were struggling to get into the top six.

"But now we are not just fighting for the top six, we are also battling to get into the top four. It's big for us as players, to try to get something back in our time at the club."
