Super League: Barrie and Terry are back with their predictions

Rugby League Columnist Expert Barrie v Terry

The boys are back and ready to tear into each other once more as they go head-to-head with their Super League predictions.

On the pitch Barrie McDermott and Terry O'Connor liked nothing better than tearing into the opposition.

They may have hung up their boots but that competitive streak still runs strong and we have found a way to channel their energies...

Last year McDermott pipped O'Connor to the title, and although Terry demanded a recount, he finally conceded that Barrie was the rightful winner.

Each week they will give their predictions for the Super League games; they will score one point for a win and if they both pick the winner, then the pundit with the closest score gets an extra point.

Let battle commence!

Current standings

BARRIE - 11
TERRY - 12

Leeds v Huddersfield 7.30pm, Thurs, Sky Sports 3HD

Live First Utility Super League

Terry says: Two former enforcers of Super League, Paul Anderson and Brian McDermott, go head to head this weekend with Huddersfield in desparate need of a win. With Luke Robinson given a rest there will be added pressure on Danny Brough to step up and perform. He's a player whose frustrations can be seen on a pitch, and the Leeds players will be very aware that if they rattle him it would go a long way to winning the game for them.

Prediction: Both teams had a week off but I'm making the call that Leeds will come back fresher and with more hunger so I'm going for a Leeds win by 10.

Barrie says: Rhinos v Giants games have been very close in recent times, and those close games have gone Huddersfield's way over the last four or five years, so they've become a bit of a bogey team for the Rhinos. That said, Huddersfield are in a bit of a struggle at the moment, they can't seem to get 2015 off to a start, while Leeds are yet to lose a game this season. This game is waiting for one of those records to fall. Leeds have an almost full-strength team with only Brett Delaney and Rob Burrow not in the side. Huddersfield can almost say the same but Luke Robinson has been left out as his coach feels he needs a break from the game.

Prediction: These two sides will be fully rested and ready after a week off, and I'm going Leeds to win by 10 points.

St Helens v Castleford: 7.30pm, Fri, Sky Sports 1HD

Live First Utility Super League

Terry says: St Helens had one of those sad days at the office that all players, coaches and teams go through at some point. When you look through the Saints team on that day you'd have to say there will be a lot of players looking to put that game to bed with a solid win. Unfortunately for Castleford that means there will be a lot of wounded lions in Saints jerseys that will be taking their frustrations out on them.

Prediction: St Helens didn't play well enough last week but I'm backing them to improve and come out with a win by 14 points.

Barrie says: I've been fascinated to hear the vibe coming from the Saints camp. After a loss like they suffered against the Rabbitohs a team either shrinks or comes out stronger, and it seems like Saints are feeling strong. They had a lesson on how to lay the game from Souths and there are a number of St Helens players who will know that they could have done better that day. Castleford is another team that hasn't quite hit their straps in 2015 after an amazing year last year which was capped by having one of their players voted Man of Steel. There was a wave of optimism at the end of last year but they haven't quite built on that yet.

Prediction: They have some good things happening off the pitch for Castleford but they need to get it right on the pitch. I don't think they will get it right this week so I'm going with a Saints win by 14 points.

Catalans v Warrington: 1.55pm, Sat, Sky Sports 3HD

Live First Utility Super League

Terry says: The good news for Catalan is that Todd Carney is in the team along with Scott Dureau. We've been waiting a while for Carney to make his debut for the club. Looking back they've had players such as Stacey Jones and Greg Bird but for me Carney is the most naturally gifted player they've had on their books. People focus on the controversy of his past but let's hope he realises the importance of allowing his rugby to make the headlines. His team-mates will be hoping the same thing! Warrington were great in the World Club Series and if not for a few pieces of bad luck they could have won.

Prediction: My concern for Wolves is that the bruising encounter will affect them negatively in this game, physically and emotionally. It will be difficult to give another performance like that, so I think Catalan will win it by eight points.

Barrie says: I covered this fixture last year towards the end of the season and it was some spectacle. Warrington arrived in desparate need of a win but Catalan's home record looked to make that difficult. Wolves won and it was that win that kicked Wolves on to the play-off series. Ironically it was Michael Monaghan who led the win for Wolves that day, as this weekend he finds himself on the coaching staff of Catalan. Warrington will feel that they could have done better in the World Club Series last weekend and they will be looking to rectify that against Catalan, which I believe they will do.

Prediction: Todd Carney comes in for the Dragons but despite his enormous talent Im going to go for a rare loss for Catalan at home - Warrington to win by eight.

Barrie: Hull FC by 12
