Wigan Warriors history nothing to hide, says Shaun Wane

Wigan Warriors head coach Shaun Wane insists his side's rich history in the Challenge Cup is nothing to shy away from.

The Warriors are the most successful side in the competition to date with 19 titles and Wane believes this will provide the motivation his side need when they meet Hull KR on Friday evening.

"It's a proud history, there is no doubt about that," said Wane. "We have won more trophies than anybody else. We are a famous club and it is something that past people have tried to keep quiet. I love it.

"I tell players to understand how famous we are as a club and embrace it and play your part in the history of a great club.

"That is really important to me, that the players understand where they have come from and who they are representing.

"It's our job to make sure we want it more than them. It doesn't matter to me if it's a 2-0 victory, it is a knock out game that we have to win and that's our attitude going in to it."

It is also a competition that is important to Wigan captain Sean O'Loughlin, who tasted victory in the cup in 2013 with his hometown club.

"For me personally, I grew up watching Wigan and probably going down to Wembley to watch them five or six times as a kid," said O'Loughlin. "They are very special memories as a young lad going down there and to get an opportunity to try and emulate that.

"It’s a real honour to do it for your club and to get to win it was one of the proudest moments of my career."

Boots 'n' All look ahead to the Challenge Cup sixth-round tie between Wigan and Hull KR

Wigan will face a Hull KR side with a point to prove at the Leigh Sports Village in round six.

Chris Chester’s men suffered a 60-0 demolition at the hands of the Warriors a fortnight ago. However their coach insists it is a challenge they will relish.

Chester said: "We owe them one from the other night but we owe ourselves more than anything and we owe the rest of the people that come and support us a performance. We will be looking to put a few wrongs right.

"We are on a neutral ground. We are going to be playing at the Leigh Sports Village - we are all very excited. It could have been a lot easier but to win these competitions, you’ve got to beat the best teams and Wigan at the minute are the best team in the competition."
