Hull have recruited veteran Crusaders centre Tony Martin and appointed former Great Britain forward Andy Hay to their coaching staff.

Martin, the latest player from the defunct Crusaders to find a new club, is joining the Black and Whites on a 12-month contract while Hay has signed a three-year deal to work alongside Lee Radford under new head coach Peter Gentle.

Hay spent six years as assistant coach at Castleford but quit in the wake of the departure of Terry Matterson, who has been replaced by fellow Australian Ian Millward.

"We are thrilled to have secured the services of a coach of Andy's undoubted ability and certainly someone that is held in very high regard across the game," stated Hull director of rugby Shaun McRae.

"He has all the attributes to go on and become a top British Super League coach."

Radford joined the backroom staff yesterday after announcing his retirement as a player.

Martin excited by move

The experienced Martin, who has more made than 300 appearances for Melbourne Storm, London Broncos, New Zealand Warriors, Wakefield and Crusaders, is Hull's seventh new signing for 2012.

Martin, who celebrated his 33rd birthday on Friday, has gained exemption from the overseas quota due to Crusaders' withdrawal from Super League.

"This is a really exciting move for me and I know I'm joining one of the biggest clubs in the competition," he said.

"I have played at the KC Stadium a few times and it is such a fantastic place to play rugby league and probably even better with a few more thousand fans behind you instead of against you!"

McRae added: "We have been looking at the centre position and have been keen to find a specialist player for the role. Since becoming available following his departure from Crusaders, we knew Tony would be a good fit for us."
