Wales forward Andy Powell has admitted that he would "love" to switch codes and play rugby league, despite his recall to the national team.

"I would love to go and play league. I really would. It would suit my game"

Warren Gatland has drafted the 28-year-old back into the international fold for the upcoming fixtures against South Africa and New Zealand.

The Cardiff Blues flanker had been dropped during the RBS Six Nations campaign after being charged with driving a golf buggy while over the limit the morning after Wales' dramatic win over Scotland.

Despite his Wales return and 2011 being a World Cup year, Powell, who has attended several Crusaders games, admits he is tempted to follow in the footsteps of ex-Blues colleague Gareth Thomas and play in Super League.

Style

"I've been up (to Wrexham) a few times to watch Alfie (Thomas) play and he's really enjoying himself," Powell told The Guardian. newspaper.

"I would love to go and play league. I really would. It would suit my game.

"League is about getting the ball in hand and it's a straight-on game that matches my style.

"As a kid I always followed league and I also played it - around under-14 level. It's something I'd like to do. I'm sure I will do it - at some point in the next year or so."

Wales take on the Springboks at the Millennium Stadium next month before flying out for a two-Test series in New Zealand. They take on the All Blacks in Dunedin on June 19 and then again in Hamilton seven days later.
