Warrington-bound forward Roy Asotasi will miss Samoa's World Cup campaign despite being named in the initial squad.
The 31-year-old front-rower was included in the 24-man party for the tournament, but he has remained behind in Australia.
Asotasi, who was capped 24 timed by New Zealand before switching allegiances to Samoa, had skippered the side for their 36-4 defeat to Tonga in April.
However Asotasi, who helped South Sydney Rabbitohs to the NRL play-offs this year, joins Jeff Lima and Steve Matai in missing the tournament.
Samoa, who will be based in Warrington, will play a warm-up game against England Knights on Saturday before facing New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and France in a tough-looking Pool B.
